Methodology
Disposition events are counted per year, along with the number of distinct tickers involved. Only disposition is counted — the attention list is a separate, much larger measure and is excluded.
Yearly figures from 2001. The underlying table holds attention and disposition events together, and attention events outnumber disposition ones by more than an order of magnitude; mixing them would inflate every figure here and describe something else entirely.
What this means, and how to use it
Disposition is the exchange intervening in how a stock trades, so the count is a rough measure of how much speculative activity drew a response in a given year. Events and distinct tickers move differently: one stock disposed repeatedly is not the same market as many stocks disposed once. History, not a forecast.
